چکیده

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a sustainable, bio-based, and industrially compostable polymer with recalcitrant abiotic degradation phase, limiting its organic recovery to well-managed industrial composting facilities. We present methodology fully biodegrade PLA in home settings. Thermoplastic starch (TPS) were reactively blended by adding chemical modifier peroxide radicals obtain PLA-g-TPS blend twin screw extrusion later processed into films cast extrusion. Biodegradation of the was investigated using direct measurement respirometer for 180 days tracking CO2 evolution compost media at 58 37 °C, number average molecular weight (Mn) reduction measured size exclusion chromatography. The hydrophilic nature TPS role as nutrient source accelerated both biotic phases process. kinetic curve Mn showed positive effect on accelerating hydrolysis during lag phase mesophilic thermophilic conditions due increased chain mobility. This work unlocks capability PLA-based be successfully composted without compromising their desired properties applications everyday life.

Interface modified polylactic acid/starch/poly ε-caprolactone antibacterial nanocomposite blends for medical applications.

In this study, an optimized interface-modified ternary blend with antibacterial activity based on polylactic acid/starch/poly ε-caprolactone (PLASCL20), mixed with nano hydroxyapatite (nHA) via melt blending. This method results in a homogeneous nanocomposite blend in which the addition of 3% nHA improves the overall properties such as hydrolytic degradation, hydrophilicity, antibacterial activ...

Impact, thermal and biodegradation properties of high impact polystyrene/corn starch blends processed via melt extrusion

High impact polystyrene (HIPS)/corn starch blends were prepared in presence of glycerol as a plasticizer via melt extrusion process by a twin-screw extruder. The novelty of this work is first, because of the use of pre-gelatinized corn starch as modified one and second, the procedure of making blends by extruder which makes it ease of access and also industrially possible. The blends were then ...
